The Netherlands plans to purchase a batch of 51 mobile
radars for Ukraine, set to be delivered by the end of 2024, Dutch Defense
Minister Ruben Brekelmans announced via Twitter on Aug. 21.
“Russia is attacking [Ukraine] with drones in an unconscionable manner,” said Brekelmans.
“A solid air defense is vital. That is why we are purchasing 51 mobile radars for Ukraine.”
According to the minister, the radars will be supplied by the Dutch company Robin Radar Systems.
The Dutch ministry’s website states that the country will acquire 51 mobile complexes for drone detection for Ukraine. The contract is set to be signed on Aug. 21 with Robin Radar Systems in The Hague.
These radars can detect small drones and distinguish them from birds. Their unique feature is mobility, which will hopefully allow them to effectively cover a lot of Ukrainian territory as the country deals with nightly attacks by waves of Russian kamikaze drones.
