Russian proxy authorities suspend nighttime train travel in temporarily occupied Crimea
Nation10 June, 08:35 AM
Starting from midnight on June 10, all rail transport into Simferopol will be restricted to daytime hours between 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., Russian occupational authorities stated.
The restrictions will apply to long-distance trains, limiting daytime trips to eight a day. Another six en-route trains will terminate early at the Kerch-Yuzhnaya railway station, where passengers will be transferred to buses, according to Crimea’s proxy "leader".
Aksyonov did not give a reason for this decision.
The Kremlin-installed governor reported a UAV “strike” on a Moscow-Simferopol train on June 8, which allegedly killed the assistant locomotive driver. Crimean “authorities” suspended passenger train travel on the peninsula due to a severe fuel shortage.
The Moscow Times reported that Russians have begun canceling their “tourist trips” to Crimea in 2026: the number of hotel bookings at resorts dropped by 31% year-over-year.
Fuel crisis in occupied Crimea deepened in May following Ukrainian strikes on the “land corridor” connecting Russia and its oil refineries. A restriction on gasoline sales has been imposed, trapping some tourists on the peninsula.
