Nine NATO countries to train Ukrainian brigade in Poland

The agreement was finalized during a meeting of NATO defense ministers. The participating countries are Norway (coordinator), Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, and Sweden.

Under the initiative, the nine allies will provide weapons, equipment, and troop training to bring the Ukrainian brigade up to modern NATO standards. Lithuania will send a mobile training team along with training ammunition and grenades. It also will supply the brigade with counter-drone systems and night-vision equipment valued at about EUR12 million ($14 million).

On Sept. 15, Norway opened a large training camp in eastern Poland staffed by Norwegian instructors to prepare Ukrainian soldiers. Dubbed Camp Jomsborg, the facility is nestled in a wooded area and is one of the largest such camps Norway has ever administered. It already hosts hundreds of Norwegian service members.
