According to Poulsen, the training will end because the Danish Air Force is transitioning to F-35 fighter jets, which will use the Skrydstrup Air Base where Ukrainian pilots are currently being trained.
Poulsen added that nearly 20 Ukrainian pilots will complete their training in Denmark by the end of the program in late 2024.
At the same time, the minister stated that Denmark will still contribute to the training of Ukrainian pilots, but in other countries.
Currently, Ukrainian pilots are training in Romania. However, Poulsen pointed out that no decision has been made yet regarding Denmark’s participation in this training process and, if so, how it would be involved.
Denmark and the Netherlands lead an international coalition that trains Ukrainian crews to fly and maintain F-16s, as Kyiv expects to receive the first batch of U.S.-made aircraft in the coming months.
