The purpose of the North Korean military's presence in Mariupol remains unclear. A source told the journalists that the North Koreans are stationed separately from the Russian units they support. They live in separate accommodations, and have their own food, music, and entertainment.
The source added that one of the recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory wounded a high-ranking North Korean general.
U.S. media previously reported that a senior North Korean officer was indeed injured in a Ukrainian ATACMS strike on a military command post in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.
Earlier on Nov. 22, Nazarii Kishak, an officer of Ukraine’s 153rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, reported that North Korean troops were spotted in Kharkiv Oblast.
