The Norwegian government published the text of Støre’s
speech on Aug. 23.
Støre stressed that the assistance includes
military, humanitarian and financial support.
“Ukraine is fighting for freedom, independence
and the right to decide its own future. These are not only Ukrainian
principles. They are the foundation of every democracy,” he said.
Støre said all parties in Norway’s parliament
support continued aid to Ukraine.
“Ukraine is not defined by this war. It is a
country with a rich history. A culture that has survived every attempt to erase
it. That is worth stating clearly on a day like this,” Støre said.
“Supporting and rebuilding Ukraine is not just
aid. It is an investment in Europe’s security,” he concluded.
Støre was among the foreign leaders who
arrived in Kyiv on Aug. 23, the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day. Estonian
Prime Minister Kristen Michal, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs and
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also traveled to the Ukrainian capital,
along with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Finnish President Alexander
Stubb.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul arrived in Kyiv on Aug. 22.
