The funding will cover the development and procurement of unmanned surface vessels, which will be supplied by both Norwegian and Ukrainian industry, the statement said.
"Norway's maritime industry is a world leader. I'm pleased that this expertise can also be used to support Ukraine's fight for freedom. Ukraine uses maritime drones for reconnaissance, offensive operations and to defend against Russian attacks," Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said.
The government added that exports of grain and other goods through the Black Sea are vital to Ukraine's economy and to global food security. Norwegian
Defense Minister Tore Sandvik said the cooperation with Ukraine helps train Norwegian personnel and will strengthen the navy's ability to gradually introduce unmanned vessels under a new long-term plan.
Parliament has approved continuing military support to
Ukraine in 2026 totaling NOK70 billion ($4.2 billion). The funds will be
allocated in close consultation with Kyiv to ensure they are used where they
have the greatest effect, the statement said.
