For the first time during the war, the Russian invaders launched kamikaze drones equipped with night vision cameras at Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on Jan. 9, said Nikopol District Administration head, Yevhen Yevtushenko, on Telegram.

“Late in the evening, the Russians attacked Nikopol with kamikaze drones,” Yevtushenko wrote.

“The evening UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack indicates the use of new drones equipped with night vision cameras.”

Drones of that type have been used at the front for a long time, but this was the first time in the area, Yevtushenko clarified.

The Russian attack in Nikopol resulted in damage to two private houses, a shed, and a power line, Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Serhiy Lysak reported on Telegram on Jan.10.

A village in the Marganets community was shelled by heavy artillery. There were no casualties, Lysak added.

Russia has been systematically shelling Nikopol and the community since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

A 45-year-old man was killed, and a 16-year-old girl and 66-year-old man were injured, after Russia attacked Nikopol and three communities in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on Jan. 6.
