SBU detains Odesa draft staff after gunfire, in alleged $50,000 extortion case

Service members from one of Odesa’s district territorial
recruitment and social support centers — Ukraine’s military draft offices —
were detained by Ukraine’s SBU Security Service, Suspilne reported on April 21,
citing the draft office’s press service.
The leadership of the Odesa regional territorial recruitment
and social support center arrived at the scene to determine the circumstances.

Suspilne, citing its own sources in the SBU, said eight
staff members of the Peresyp district draft office and one local police officer
were detained. The sources said they had “demanded $50,000.”
Earlier, Odesa Telegram channels reported a chase and
gunfire. Dumska said the detention operation was carried out by the KORD
special unit and SBU internal security officers.
