Odesa draft office official behind multimillion-dollar evasion scheme sent to pre-trial detention

The head of the Prymorskyi district draft office in Odesa, who organized a large-scale scheme to profit from draft dodgers, was sent to a pre-trial detention center for two months with the possibility of bail, Suspilne reported on May 28.

The bail amount is UAH 242,240 ($6,000).

Since July 2023, the suspect has helped 138 men obtain the status of unfit for military service, according to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The price for this "service" ranged from $4,500 to $7,000, earning him approximately $1 million.

Law enforcement officers have identified all individuals who used the scheme: some have managed to go abroad, while others were brought to draft offices to update their data.
