A court has imposed house arrest on a platoon commander of an army unit in Zhytomyr Oblast who was indicted for beating an enlisted soldier in a training center, the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) told news website Ukrainska Pravda on March 17.

The decision was adopted on March 16 by a Zhytomyr district court.

Earlier, the commander was served an indictment for abuse of power committed under martial law.

The investigation was initiated upon a video published online showing an officer kicking a conscripted soldier in a barracks, with the video text explaining that it was Viktor Vitusevych, the commander of a training center.

Vitusevych later recorded a video apology, alluding to “punishing” the soldier for drinking alcohol.

The injured soldier also recorded a video message saying that the commander was not beating him, but "showing him some fighting moves."
