Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko of the European Solidarity party published a series of posts on Telegram Oct. 2, saying, among other things, that Ukraine is “losing the war” and should negotiate with Russia.

“We cannot negotiate an end to the war right away; let’s negotiate about everything under the sun,” Goncharenko wrote.

He said an immediate peace deal was impossible but argued that if the two sides negotiated incremental de-escalation steps, they could eventually “reach agreements on something more substantial.”

Goncharenko stated that he was not calling for capitulation but for the start of negotiations.

“Unfortunately, negotiations require concessions; both we and Russia will have to make them,” he said.

The European Solidarity party published a statement on Facebook shortly afterwards, saying that “peace must end the war, but peace cannot mean the capitulation of Ukrainian statehood and identity.”

“Therefore, Ukraine needs two things at the same time: maximum strength to defend itself and maximum diplomatic activity to end the war,” the party said.

The party also said the statement had been unanimously approved by all members of the European Solidarity parliamentary faction. It concluded: “Peace means a Ukraine that remains strong, armed, democratic, European, and Ukrainian after the war.”

In an Oct. 1 poll by NV Radio, more than half of the 1,147 respondents, or 613 people, answered no when asked: “In 2026, are you still frightened by Putin’s threats to bring a ‘terrible winter’ to Ukraine?”

Another 275 respondents said they considered the threat an “inconvenience,” while 259 said they were “very frightened.”
