Despite the evacuation efforts, approximately 5,000 individuals remain in Toretsk, with the broader municipality still home to around 10,000 residents. Many of those remaining have expressed a desire to evacuate, per the National Police.
The evacuations are being coordinated by a collaboration of the National Police, the State Emergency Service, the Donetsk Oblast Military Administration, and local government bodies. Over 20 joint teams, comprising groups known as White Angels, paramedics, and special forces, are actively involved in the effort.
The evacuation follows a recent attack on June 30, where Russian forces dropped four KAB-250 guided aerial bombs on Toretsk. This assault resulted in the death of at least one individual and injuries to two others, while also destroying a residential building.
