There is no “simple or immediate solution” to Russia's war against Ukraine, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said on Jan. 21.

As reported by Italian news agency ANSA, Crosetto added that the West needs to continue providing military aid to Kyiv to eventually create conditions for a ceasefire.

During Senate hearings on the subject, the minister noted that Russia is prosecuting the war in an increasingly brutal fashion.

“There is no simple or immediate solution,” said Crosetto.

“There is a significant increase in Russian attacks targeting both military and civilian objectives in Ukraine indiscriminately.”

He added that the Italian government is committed to "continuing its support for Ukraine in order to finally create the conditions for a ceasefire and to open the necessary diplomatic discussions to achieve a lasting peace."

On Jan. 16, Crosetto visited Kyiv, where he held several meetings, including one with Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. At that time, Crosetto stated that Italy is strengthening its military support for Ukraine, with another weapons package already on its way to Ukraine.
