Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow believes supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine “would not be able to change the situation on the front.”
Peskov said Russia views U.S. President Donald Trump as still having the political will to seek a resolution to the war in Ukraine, but added that diplomatic ties between Moscow and Washington “remain subdued.”
He also commented on the European Union’s decision to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats inside the bloc, warning that Russia would “respond.”
Earlier, Trump said he had “practically decided” to provide Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but that he wanted to know how Kyiv would use them.
On Sept. 26, Britain’s The Telegraph reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy privately asked Trump at the U.N. General Assembly to supply Tomahawk missiles, saying high-tech weapons could help bring Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table.
In a Sept. 25 interview with The Axios Show, Zelenskyy said Kremlin officials should “learn where the nearest shelters are,” because Ukraine’s forces would use long-range weapons if they received them from the United States.
On Oct. 1, The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that the United States would provide Ukraine with intelligence to support missile strikes deep inside Russia.
