The progression of the Russo–Ukrainian war demands additional defense funding this year, Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi said on Aug. 3.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

Koretskyi said meetings with key ministers and senior military commanders showed there is an extra need caused by battlefield realities and specific decisions by the military high command, and that this will require additional financing.

He said that the government plans to update budget figures by the end of 2026 and to prepare a budget draft for 2027.

Koretskyi urged the diplomatic corps to help secure additional funding from international partners. He also said a priority is using frozen Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction.

On July 30, Ukraine received another installment of EUR3.47 billion from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan. A total of EUR45 billion is planned for Ukraine under that mechanism in 2026.

On July 25, opposition MP Vadym Ivchenko told NV that money to support servicemembers is available only through the end of August.
