Poland deports five Ukrainian citizens over public safety concerns

According to the statement, the five were escorted to the Polish-Ukrainian border and handed over to Ukrainian authorities. The sixth detainee remains in Poland.

Authorities said the men broke Polish law and “posed a clear threat to public safety and order in Poland.” Alleged offenses included tax crimes; financial fraud and extortion; theft; property damage; harassment and psychological or physical violence; and driving under the influence.

The deported Ukrainians have been banned from entering the EU Schengen Area for several years.

In August, Poland deported a Ukrainian citizen who posted videos online threatening to burn down buildings. On Aug. 30, Polish border guards deported 15 Ukrainians, handing them to Ukrainian authorities. The service said those men had multiple convictions for theft, robbery, drug possession, document forgery, and drunk driving.
