Soldiers from the 4th and 18th Engineer Regiments are taking
part in the work. They are constructing border fortifications using Hesco
Bastions and providing engineering support to the Nadbużański Border Guard
Unit.
The troops are establishing surveillance and security posts near the Dorohusk, Medyka, and Korczowa border crossings. The work comes as security measures are being strengthened along the Polish-Ukrainian border.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously said he planned to reorganize traffic at the border with Ukraine to prevent vehicle buildups that could become targets for Russian attacks.
On Sept. 13, Russian forces attacked the locomotive
of a passenger train with a drone in Volyn Oblast, about 2 kilometers from the
Polish border. No one was injured, according to Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s state
railway operator.
