Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited the first completed section of fortifications on the Russian border, part of the Eastern Shield project, Polskie Radio reported on Nov. 30.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans to build fortifications on the borders with Belarus and Ukraine as part of the Eastern Shield project.

He emphasized that the fortifications, which aim to increase safety and deter potential aggression, will be invisible in parts and will not require forced displacement of residents.

Tusk called it the largest project of its kind in Europe since 1945, with an estimated cost of over $2.5 billion.

The project is expected to be completed by 2028.

Tusk also highlighted cooperation with Baltic countries to ensure the infrastructure’s effectiveness along Poland's eastern border.
