Polsat News reported that a Russian drone damaged a residential building in the village of Wyrki, Włodawa County, Lublin Voivodeship.

The building’s roof and a nearby parked car were damaged. Mariusz Zańko, head of Włodawa County, confirmed to the outlet “an incident in which a residential building was damaged.”

“We still don’t know the exact details; we don’t know if it was the drone itself that hit the building and damaged the roof and ceiling, or if it was drone debris,” he said.

“As far as I understand from residents, people heard an explosion and also saw Polish fighter jets. The situation is quite complicated and worrying; there is real concern among residents,” Zańko added.

Police confirmed drone debris hit a residential building. No one was injured.

“Whether there will be next steps depends entirely on the coordination and strength of the response. Russians must feel the consequences. Russia must feel that the war cannot be expanded and will have to end,” Zelenskyy stressed.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on the Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace.

“Russian drones that invaded Poland during a massive attack on Ukraine show that Putin feels increasingly immune to consequences, since he hasn’t been properly punished for his previous crimes,” Sybiha wrote on X.

In his view, the longer Putin “doesn’t face a strong response, the more aggressive he becomes.”

“A weak reaction now will provoke Russia even further — and then Russian missiles and drones will intrude deeper into Europe. This situation shows that it’s finally necessary to decide on using the air defense capabilities of neighboring countries to intercept drones and missiles in Ukrainian airspace, including those approaching NATO’s borders,” Sybiha said on X, adding that Ukraine has long proposed this step “for the sake of collective security.”

“This is also a call for partners to urgently strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and better protect it against the growing number of Russian drones and missiles that regularly attack us,” Ukraine’s foreign minister stressed.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Polish forces opened fire on “objects” that violated the country’s airspace on Sept. 10. He declined to specify the origin of those “objects.”

Poland called an emergency cabinet meeting for 8 a.m. local time (9 a.m. Kyiv time) and notified members of the Territorial Defense Forces of shortened call-up times in several regions — if a mobilization order and draft notices are issued.

In areas marked in red on the official map — Podlaskie, Masovian, Lublin and Subcarpathian voivodeships — the reporting time for service was reduced to six hours. In the “yellow” zones, Territorial Defense members must be ready to report within 12 hours.

The Territorial Defense Forces (in Polish, Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej, WOT) are Poland’s fifth branch of the armed forces, alongside the army, air force, navy and special forces. They are made up of both professional soldiers and volunteers.

Lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States urged President Donald Trump to respond to the unprecedented breach of NATO airspace.

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, a Republican, directly called the Shahed strike on Poland “an act of war.”

“In the wake of today’s attack by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, there was an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects. This is an act of aggression that posed a real threat to the security of our citizens,” Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command said on X.

The military confirmed that some of the drones that entered Poland’s airspace had been shot down. Search operations were underway to locate the crash sites.

6:08 a.m. Prime Minister Tusk confirms ‘multiple violations’ of airspace

“An operation is underway connected to multiple violations of Polish airspace. The military used weapons against the objects. I am in constant contact with the president and the defense minister. I received a direct report from the operational commander,” Tusk wrote on X.

Poland’s Operational Command also posted on X:

“During today’s attack by the Russian Federation, which struck targets in Ukraine, our airspace was repeatedly violated by drone-type objects. An operation is underway to identify and neutralize the objects. By order of the operational commander, weapons were used, and services are working to locate the downed objects.”

The military urged citizens to remain indoors while the operation continued.

“The most dangerous areas are Podlaskie, Masovian and Lublin voivodeships. The Operational Command is monitoring the situation, and subordinate forces and assets remain fully prepared for immediate response,” the statement said.

According to the BBC, Poland suspended operations at four airports: Warsaw’s main Chopin Airport, Warsaw-Modlin, Rzeszów-Jasionka (the closest to Ukraine) and Lublin.
