Polish defense chief urges sustained Ukraine aid after large-scale Russian barrage

Kosiniak-Kamysz called the ballistic missile assault “the most powerful since the invasion began” and said it demonstrated that Russia was preparing another mobilization drive.

“This demonstrates how detached from reality calls to reduce support for Ukraine or slow the modernization of the Polish military are,” he wrote.

He added that his ministry was doing “everything possible to ensure that Russian missiles never reach Polish territory.”

Russia attacked Ukraine overnight into July 19 with 125 drones and 41 missiles of various air- and ground-launched types. Kyiv was the main target. Falling debris and fires were reported in the Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Solomianskyi districts. At least one person was killed.

A Russian missile struck an underground pedestrian passage near Kyiv’s Lukianivska metro station. The station’s aboveground entrance was damaged, and the station was temporarily closed. At about 4 p.m., the Kyiv Metro said it had resumed normal operations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack on Kyiv was among the largest by the number of ballistic missiles launched.
