“We are currently holding consultations with representatives of the sector, the Minister of Defense, and the First Deputy Prime Minister to find the best solution for how and when these expenditures will be allocated." said the official.
The resources to cover the additional costs are available, Marchenko said.
"The question remains what format this support will take and when we will appeal to you. Therefore, I hope you will understand the need to increase the budget," the minister said, declining to provide specific figures.
News agency Interfax-Ukraine reported that the changes could involve an additional 300 billion hryvnias ($7.3 billion) in spending.
Ukraine's 2025 budget, approved with revenues of 2.327 trillion hryvnias ($56.3 billion) and expenditures of 3.929 trillion hryvnias ($95.1 billion), was previously amended at the end of July to add 412 billion hryvnias ($10 billion) to defense. On Aug. 20, parliament made further changes worth about 40 billion hryvnias ($968 million).
