Energy and Finance ministries are drafting proposals for additional pay for energy infrastructure repair crews who operate in the most challenging conditions, Ukrainian PM Yulia Svyrydenko announced on Jan. 12.

“We are introducing bonus pay for energy workers in repair and restoration brigades of utility companies,” Svyrydenko said in a Telegram post.

“These are specialists who, even in freezing weather, travel to the sites of incoming strikes to restore heat, electricity, water, and gas.”

She noted that the work is grueling, carried out under fire and in severe cold, day and night.

“The life in the country continues even after the heaviest enemy attacks, and electricity and heating return to Ukrainian homes,” the PM added.

“This work pushes human limits and often carries life-threatening risks across the country. It is the government’s duty to support the brave, professional people who perform this titanic labor.”

Earlier, the Energy Ministry reported that crews completed a key phase of emergency repairs in Kyiv and its surrounding region following a massive Russian missile attack on Jan. 9. The attack targeted the capital’s central heating facilities and five local boiler rooms.
