Power outages cancelled in Kharkiv Oblast due to heating and hot water supply issues

The decision was made with the involvement of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and relevant ministries.

"This means that power cuts to residents will not be implemented at this time until the situation with heating and hot water supply is normalized," said the governor.

“This is a principled position of the government to support the people of Kharkiv.”

Residents are expected to use electric heaters but should conserve electricity as the grid is not designed for full load.

Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine using ballistic missiles from North Korea, Shahed strike drones, and drone decoys on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. A total of 184 air targets were detected, with air defense forces downing 59 missiles and 54 drones; an additional 52 drones did not reach their targets.

The main target of the attack was Ukraine's energy system, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

The aggressor launched 12 missiles targeting boiler houses, a thermal power plant, and electrical infrastructure in Kharkiv. A significant part of the city was left without heating, and four people were injured, according to local authorities. At least ten impacts were recorded in Kharkiv Oblast.

DTEK reported that the company's equipment was severely damaged due to Russian strikes on thermal power plants on Dec. 25. A 51-year-old energy worker was killed at one of the power plants.
