Earlier that day Zelenskyy visited Germany, where he also toured a joint German-Ukrainian defense enterprise.
“Today in Munich, Germany. An important day, and there will be new steps toward our shared security – that of Ukraine and Europe,” the head of state wrote on social media.
On Feb. 11 the Munich Security Conference, which runs Feb. 13-15, officially confirmed Zelenskyy’s participation at the head of the Ukrainian delegation.
Previously, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said the Ukrainian delegation would take part in panel discussions and hold bilateral meetings.
The priorities for discussion at the conference include peace efforts as well as strengthening Ukraine’s energy and defense resilience. Another priority for Kyiv is increasing pressure on Moscow.
On Feb. 13, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he plans to meet with Zelenskyy at the Munich Security Conference.
Politico reported that the Munich Security Conference will serve as a stark reminder of how prolonged peace negotiations on Ukraine have become despite U.S. efforts. This year’s meetings on the sidelines are not expected to produce significant concrete results, the outlet said.
