Prime Minister Koretskyi holds first international call with IMF chief Dan Katz

Koretskyi and Katz focused on the final arrangements for the fund's review session, which is scheduled to take place on Monday [July 20].

"We discussed the preparation for the meeting of the IMF Executive Board regarding the first review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program for Ukraine, which, as the Fund confirmed, will take place on July 20," Koretskyi wrote on X.

Prime Minister emphasized that the Board's approval of this first review will clear the way for Ukraine to receive its next tranche of international assistance, valued at 690 million dollars.

"I thanked the IMF for its consistent support of Ukraine," Koretskyi added.

"The Fund continues to play a key role in coordinating international financial assistance to our country. We also agreed to coordinate our next steps to secure funding for the state budget of Ukraine for 2027."

The path to the next tranche

The upcoming IMF review follows months of technical negotiations and legislative efforts in Kyiv:

July 3: Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko announced that the IMF Board of Executive Directors was expected to meet on July 20, confirming that Ukraine had already submitted all necessary documentation.

June 12: Ukraine and the IMF reached a staff-level agreement (SLA) on the first review of the four-year EFF program, setting up the release of the second tranche worth approximately SDR 503 million (690 million dollars).

To secure a favorable decision for this first review, the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian Parliament] passed a mandatory bill taxing digital platforms, though it still awaits the signature of President Zelenskyy. Meanwhile, agreements were reached to defer some of the more complex commitments made during the program's initial approval in late February, including the taxation of postal packages valued up to 150 dollars and a comprehensive overhaul of the simplified taxation system.
