Putin declares 32-hour Easter truce

Russian war

9 April, 10:26 PM

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has declared an Easter truce in the Russo–Ukrainian war to last from 4 p.m. April 11 until the end of April 12, Russian propaganda agencies TASS and RIA Novosti reported on April 9.

According to the statement, the Kremlin invited Ukraine to follow suit.

Earlier on April 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said trilateral talks on ending the war would take place soon; those negotiations were halted because of the conflict in the Middle East, and the final format of any meeting has not been determined.

On March 30, Zelenskyy told reporters he was open to any format of a cease-fire, including for Easter. On March 31, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said Russia had “not seen a clearly formulated initiative” after Zelenskyy’s proposal for an Easter ceasefire.

On April 6, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was prepared to halt strikes on Russian oil facilities if Russia stopped attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
