Vladimir Putin did not rule out strikes on British military facilities, calling the possibility a “military secret” during a news conference on Sept. 2.

"I can confirm once again: any military facilities in Ukraine are our legitimate targets. British or otherwise," Putin threatened, repeating a Russian propaganda narrative.

At the same time, the Russian leader questioned whether such facilities were present in Ukraine at all.

After being told that the question was hypothetical, Putin said that "if they are there, they will definitely [become targets]."

Putin also called the possibility of Russian strikes on Britain a "military secret."

Russian threats against Britain

On Aug. 24, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he had approved a request to provide Ukraine with technology to produce Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

Kremlin adviser Andrei Fedorov later said British drone manufacturing facilities could face a "semi-military response" over the transfer of missile blueprints to Ukraine.

On Aug. 27, Russia threatened to attack British military targets in Ukraine and "beyond its borders" in response to Ukrainian strikes using British weapons.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said London "will not be able to evade responsibility" for providing Ukraine with long-range Storm Shadow missiles and technology to produce them.
