Rada Defense Committee rep explains reason for three-month extension of martial law

The
liberation of the territories occupied by Russia could take a long
time, so there is a need to extend martial law in Ukraine for another
three months, member of the Parliamentary Committee on National
Security, Defense and Intelligence Fedir Venislavskyi has said.
Venislavskyi was speaking on Ukrainian national television on May 19.
"Since Feb. 24, we have twice prolonged martial law,” he said. “We now understand that the enemy has focused on building fortifications in temporarily controlled areas. The transition to a counterattack is a more difficult task than defense. Therefore, we have to realize that we’re unlikely to be able to liberate the entire territory of Ukraine within the next month."
At the same time, the MP noted that if Ukraine is liberated before the end of this period, martial law in the country could be lifted early.
