Lunin addresses fans after captaining Real Madrid to derby win over Atletico

In the 29th round of Spain’s La Liga, Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the Madrid derby, with the hosts securing a narrow home victory in a high-intensity clash.

Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin started and played the full match.

After the game, the 27-year-old Ukrainian posted on his Instagram page, addressing Real Madrid fans.

“Until the end,” Lunin wrote, adding several photos from the match.

Notably, in the final minutes of the game, Andriy received the captain’s armband from Vinicius Junior, who had been substituted.

During his time on the field, Lunin conceded two goals (one from outside the penalty area), made five saves, intercepted one cross, had 45 touches and completed 27 of 33 passes (81.8%).

The match was Andriy’s first appearance in La Liga this season.

Overall, in the 2025–26 season, Lunin has made five appearances for Real Madrid, conceding 10 goals and keeping one clean sheet. His contract with the club runs through the end of June 2030. Transfermarkt values the goalkeeper at 15 million euros.

Real Madrid have 69 points and are in second place, four points behind Barcelona. Atletico Madrid are fourth with 57 points.

Real Madrid’s next match is scheduled for April 4 against Mallorca in the 30th round of La Liga, while Atletico will face Barcelona the same day before meeting them again in the Champions League quarterfinals.
