Revised mobilization bill may require additional amendments to pass in parliament — report

Several lawmakers from different parties said that the parliament expects to see a new version of the draft law around Feb. 6.

Defense Ministry lawyers submitted their draft to the heads of all parliamentary factions for review on Jan. 16.

According to an influential member of the ruling Servant of the People party, they are "angry, to put it mildly," because they do not see "much improvement in the text."

"It's unclear what was actually rewritten," the source said.

“There's no way we're going to get the votes for [slightly] different wording of the same thing that was in the first version. They need to properly rewrite it.”

The Cabinet initially tabled the bill on Dec. 25, 2023, but by Jan. 11 it was withdrawn for revision, after attracting widespread criticism from MPs and the general public.

Certain provisions in the draft law clashed the Ukrainian Constitution, parliamentary Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said.
