Romanian radars triggered in possible violation of NATO air space in Russia’s mass drone attack on Ukraine

The incursion was detected near the city of Galați. Its residents, as well asresidents of the city of Tulcea, received a notification about the threat of "falling objects" around midnight, recommending they take cover.

Having detected a group of drones and a radar signal, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, police, and border guards were sent to the areas near Galați, said the Romanian Defense Ministry.

The services are searching for drone wreckage near Galați. Nothing has yet been found.

Russia launched 40 Iranian kamikaze drones at Ukraine overnight on Sept. 30. Ukraine’s air defense forces shot down 30, including six over Odesa Oblast.

Romania has found wreckage from what are likely Russian drones on several occasions on its territory. Russian drones damaged the Orlivka-Isaccea checkpoint overnight on Sept. 25-26.

NATO does not believe the attack was deliberate. Romania is moving its air defense systems closer to the border with Ukraine, Reuters reported.
