Russia attempting to encircle Lysychansk, says Ukraine’s General Staff

Supported by dense artillery barrages, Russian forces are attempting to establish control over a strategic highway and cut off the Ukraine-held city of Lysychansk, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a Facebook post on June 30.

Lysychansk is the last major population center still held by Ukraine in Luhansk Oblast. It is supplied by a highway running from the Donetsk Oblast town of Bakhmut.

Using terror tactics, the Russian army has shelled civilian infrastructure near Lysychansk, Verkhnokamianka, and Siversk, and launched an airstrike near Vovchoyarivka, Ukraine’s General Staff said.

Enemy units are assaulting the Lysychansk oil refinery; fighting there is ongoing.

Near Kramatorsk, the invaders shelled Ukraine-held positions but did not attempt to advance.
