Currently in the United States for another meeting with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Dmitriev made the comments on Oct. 24. He accused Kyiv of stalling and sabotaging the peace process, allegedly at the behest of the UK and other European nations, who, according to Dmitriev, want the war to continue.
“We see that it is Ukraine that does not want to resolve the accumulated issues,” Russian propaganda agency TASS quoted Dmitriev.
“We will make it clear to our American colleagues that, unfortunately, Ukraine is derailing the necessary dialogue.”
He added that the UK and EU economies are in a “pitiful state” and accused Europeans of “manufacturing” an image of Russia as an enemy.
Dmitriev also dismissed fresh U.S. sanctions and other “unfriendly measures” against Moscow as having “absolutely no impact” on the Russian economy. He claimed that rising oil prices already reflect those measures—and that U.S. consumers will soon feel the growing fuel costs.
“Oil prices on global markets have already increased and will continue to rise,” Dmitriev said.
Dmitriev’s visit comes days after the U.S. Treasury introduced sanctions against Russia’s largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil. This marked the first time Washington applied tangible pressure on Moscow during U.S. President Donald Trump’s second term.
