Russia attacked Kharkiv with glide bombs on Oct. 28, hitting the Derzhprom building in Freedom Square, Ukrainian MP Maria Mezentseva reported via Telegram.

Included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, Derzhprom was constructed in the 1920s and is considered the most famous example of Soviet Constructivist style.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov described Derzhprom as an architectural treasure of all Ukraine.

“It’s truly horrifying to see the strike on the Derzhprom building,” said Terekhov.

“If we look back at World War II, even [Nazi Germany's dictator Adolf] Hitler couldn’t do what the Russians have done.”

He added that residential buildings, which are also part of Kharkiv's historical city center, were damaged.
