According to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s negotiating team had long ago submitted exchange lists and fulfilled all of its obligations. At the same time, he said, the Russian side was delaying the process and attempting to shift responsibility onto Ukraine.
“Even when you agree on something with the Russians, you can never be 100% sure it will be upheld by the Russian side. In reality, the work has not stopped. Working processes and negotiation processes are taking place every day,” Lubinets said.
He stressed that the decision now depended on Russia. Ukraine, he said, had fulfilled its part of the agreements.
Earlier, Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire in the war between Ukraine and Russia on May 8.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Trump’s statement on a ceasefire for May 9, 10 and 11 and announced a planned “1,000-for-1,000” prisoner exchange.
Russia also agreed to support Trump’s ceasefire initiative and the prisoner swap, but according to the Ukrainian ombudsman, the process is currently being delayed because of Russia’s position.
