Estonia’s defense chief Eero Rebo suggested that Russia could try to strike at areas on the border between Kharkiv and Belgorod oblasts, aiming to divert Ukrainian forces from around Kupiansk, where another Russian offensive is currently underway.
He also provided a broad overview of Moscow’s attempt to seize the entirety of Donetsk Oblast.
"On the Donetsk front, the fiercest fighting is happening around Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Donetsk itself," Rebo stated.
"The main focus of the attack appears to be Avdiivka, where [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin's forces are supposedly engaging in reconnaissance and various maneuvering units within the city. However, this does not mean they have managed to break through or hinder the logistics support of Ukrainian armed forces."
U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War reported on Jan. 20 that Russian occupiers had advanced along the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna axis and captured the village of Krokhmalne in Kharkiv Oblast.
