Russia declared a missile alert in Sverdlovsk and Orenburg oblasts and in Perm Krai for the first time since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, marking an expansion of air-raid warnings deep inside the country, officials said on Feb. 27.

The governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast, Denis Pasler, urged residents not to go outside and, if they were already outdoors, to find a “solid building or an underground shelter.”

Missile danger alerts were also declared in Penza, Samara and Saratov oblasts, as well as in the republics of Chuvashia and Udmurtia.

For the first time, a missile danger regime was also introduced in Tatarstan and Bashkortostan.

Residents were urged not to use elevators and to move to basements or parking garages. Those in apartments were advised to take shelter in windowless rooms and to close windows and curtains.

The Russian pro-Kremlin Telegram channel Shot claimed that two Flamingo missiles were shot down over Russia.

According to the channel, air defense systems allegedly destroyed them over Chuvashia.
