The group of 11 UN member states has concluded that since early September 2023, when North Korea began supplying munitions to Russia, the regime delivered more than 20,000 containers of ammunition and related equipment to support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The MSMT report noted that the shipments included ammunition in calibers of 82mm, 122mm, 130mm, 152mm, and 170mm for systems in Russia’s arsenal, including the D-20, D-30, M-30, M-46 howitzers and the D-74 field gun.
Between Jan. 1 and mid-Dec. 2024, cargo ships flying the Russian flag transported 9 million rounds for artillery and multiple rocket launcher systems from North Korea in 49 shipments. The munitions were then moved by rail from Russia’s Far Eastern ports to ammunition depots in southwest Russia for use against Ukraine.
“At least for the foreseeable future, North Korea and Russia intend to continue and further deepen their military cooperation in contravention of relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions,” the MSMT report said.
The report also stated that between Jan. and Dec. 2024, North Korea transferred at least 100 ballistic missiles to Russia. Russian forces later launched some of these missiles at Ukraine, targeting civilian infrastructure in cities such as Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia.
In addition, North Korea is said to have transferred 170mm self-propelled artillery systems, 240mm multiple launch rocket systems, and reloading vehicles for both types of weapons.
