Russia launched a combined strike on a Ukrainian Army training unit, killing and wounding personnel with weapons that included two Iskander ballistic missiles, the Ukrainian Ground Forces said on Sept. 24.

“…despite the security measures taken, unfortunately it was not possible to completely avoid losses among personnel. Emergency services are working at the site,” the statement said.

The military assured that in order to protect the lives and health of service members, work continues to equip training centers, ranges and other military facilities with reliable shelters. Additional safety measures are also being implemented to protect troops during Russian missile and air attacks.

On the night of Aug. 12, Russian invaders launched a missile strike on the territory of one of the Ukrainian Ground Forces’ training units.

Command officials said personnel were properly alerted as soon as the air raid siren sounded. However, while moving to shelter, a group of soldiers came under fire from cluster munitions. One service member was killed and 11 were wounded with varying degrees of severity. Another 12 sought medical attention for acoustic trauma (concussion) and acute stress.
