Russia unleashes massive drone barrage on Ukraine, causing devastation and injuries

The drones were fired from multiple directions, including Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea.

Air defense teams scrambled across Ukraine’s southern, northern, and central regions to counter the attack.

Waves of destruction across Ukraine

Odesa, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, and Kyiv oblasts were hit hard in the assault, leaving damaged homes, businesses, and injured civilians in its wake.

“This was one of the largest drone attacks since the full-scale war began,” Ukraine’s Air Force reported.

The barrage was part of a growing pattern. On Feb. 23, Russia launched 267 drones on Ukraine — the largest assault to date. Before that, the record was set on Dec. 12–13, when 193 drones were fired.

Kyiv under siege

The skies above Kyiv were particularly chaotic on the evening of March 20. As 47 enemy drones swarmed the airspace near the capital, air defense units managed to shoot down 27 of them.

Meanwhile, Odesa also found itself in the crosshairs. Russian drones targeted the city and surrounding area, damaging civilian infrastructure. A residential building, a shopping mall, and several stores were hit. Among the injured were three teenagers caught in the chaos.

Tragedy in Zaporizhzhya

On March 21, Russia’s aggression escalated further when guided aerial bombs struck settlements in Zaporizhzhya district. The attacks sparked fires and caused injuries among civilians.

“There are six injured,” reported Zaporizhzhya regional governor Ivan Fedorov. “Among them is a four-year-old boy.”
