Reuters said the restrictions on truck entry were imposed after Russia closed sea routes to the Sea of Azov. One industry source told Reuters that regular Ukrainian drone strikes on port infrastructure had sharply increased risks, and fewer carriers were willing to operate on those routes.
Sources also said Russia is seeking alternative export
routes. Baltic ports are currently seen as the safest option, while use of the
Caspian Sea route remains complicated by tensions in the Middle East and a
recent Ukrainian strike on an Iranian vessel.
