Senior Ukrainian commander believe Russia is planning to launch an air strike on the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) just north of the capital, a source in Ukraine’s General Staff told NV on July 16.

“There is information suggesting that they will attempt to strike the Kyiv [HPP] dam,” one official told us, wishing to remain anonymous.

According to the source, the Ukrainian military “considers this threat to be real.” They believe that while Moscow is unlikely to be able to destroy or breach the dam, the attack may cripple the power plant’s capacity to generate electricity.

“We saw this message [about an alleged Ukrainian false flag attack on the dam] in Russian propaganda,” the source continued.

“We have repeatedly seen that when they announce such actions, they accuse Ukraine, of course, but it is done to cover their own actions.”

On July 12, the Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that Ukraine was allegedly preparing to blow up the dams at the Kyiv HPP and the Kaniv Reservoir to “blame it on Russia.”
