Russian war

The rapid advance of Russian infantry near Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, has been largely halted, Ukrainian military spokesperson Victor Tregubov said on Aug. 14.

“They did not advance beyond their initial infiltration,” Tregubov said.

“The map shows their route rather than all the ground they occupied. They were stopped early, and now the forces that entered are being contained and destroyed.”

He added that Ukrainian troops are currently clearing Russian infantry groups from forested areas, though it is unclear how long the operation will last. When asked whether most of the Russian units in question have been destroyed, he replied, “As of now, yes.”

“The key is preventing new enemy groups from pushing forward,” Tregubov said.

“Our first line is holding. They simply used everything they could infiltrate beyond it.”

At the same time, he noted that the situation remains tense, with constant Russian pressure across the frontline in Donetsk Oblast.

Earlier, Ukraine’s General Staff stated that the situation near Dobropillia in Donetsk Oblast, where Russian forces had advanced rapidly in recent days, was stabilizing.

The enemy breakthrough near Dobropillia became apparent on Aug. 11, with scores of small Russian infantry groups advancing up to 10 kilometers beyond Ukrainian positions.
