Update 13:02 p.m.: Serhii Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk
Oblast Military Administration, confirmed that Russian forces attacked the
Dnipro district. Details are still being clarified.
Ukraine’s air force had earlier warned about a
potential ballistic missile threat.
Russia’s Oreshnik ballistic missile strike on Dnipro
Ukraine’s air force reported that on the morning of Nov. 21,
Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from Astrakhan Oblast,
targeting Dnipro.
Defense Express analysts said this marks the first time Russia
has launched an intercontinental ballistic missile against Ukraine, likely
demonstrating its nuclear strike capability.
NV’s sister publication, Ukrainska Pravda, citing sources,
reported that Russian forces likely used the RS-26 Rubezh, a medium-range
intercontinental ballistic missile, for the first time.
Later, Reuters, citing Western officials, reported that
Western countries have not confirmed Russia’s use of an intercontinental
ballistic missile in the attack.
In an evening video address, Russian President Vladimir
Putin claimed Russian forces hit Dnipro with a new medium-range system called
Oreshnik.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry noted that Ukrainian forces have
previously carried out long-range strikes on Russian-occupied territories.
However, Putin only began “panicking” when targets inside Russia were struck.
