Russia hits Kharkiv with Shahed drone, igniting massive fire in city’s industrial zone

Late on Feb. 1, Russia’s military launched a strike drone attack on Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi district. The drone hit a private business building, triggering a massive fire.

Updated 3:05 a.m. A large fire broke out at the impact site in Kharkiv, said Dmytro Chubenko, spokesperson for the Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office.

“At 11:50 p.m., the Russians struck a civilian business in the Slobidskyi district that produces clothing. The explosion ignited a fire covering about 2,000 square meters,” he said.

According to Chubenko, there were no reports of casualties at this time.

Preliminary reports indicate the Slobidskyi district was hit, said Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.

Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Synehubov also confirmed the strike.

“According to preliminary data, the enemy struck the Slobidskyi district of Kharkiv. At this moment, there have been no reports of casualties. Damage assessments are ongoing,” he wrote on Telegram.
