Russia strikes railway in Kharkiv Oblast, damaging trains and station building

Russian forces struck railway infrastructure facilities in Kharkiv Oblast overnight, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development said on Apr. 20.

As a result of the Russian attack, rolling stock, depot repair workshops, elements of the contact network and power supply, as well as the station building were damaged.

No fatalities or injuries were reported. Restoration work is ongoing.

According to the Ministry for Development, Russia has carried out more than 600 attacks on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure since the start of 2026, damaging more than 1,800 facilities.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 142 attack drones overnight, including Shahed-type UAVs, jet-powered drones, Gerbera, Italmas and other types. Air defenses shot down or suppressed 113 of them.

In Kryvyi Rih, Russia struck an infrastructure facility with a Shahed drone. In Mykolaiv, a Russian attack damaged a multi-story residential building, private homes, cars, power lines and tram tracks.

Russian forces also attacked the Brovary district of Kyiv Oblast with drones, injuring a man and setting private homes on fire.
