Russians intensify drone attacks in frontline regions, shifting focus, says Air Force

“This follows a familiar pattern, showing no substantial deviation from [January] 5th,” Ihnat said.

“A total of 21 drones have been neutralized, regrettably not intercepting all unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).”

The adversary is adjusting the focal points of their attacks onto frontline territories, with drones exhibiting varying trajectories beyond Khmelnytskyi, said Ihnat.

He emphasized that the air defense forces primarily target mobile fire groups, preserving anti-aircraft guided missiles for potential large-scale attacks, similar to those on Dec. 29 and Jan. 2.

“No intention to intimidate Ukraine is apparent,” he said.

“We maintain a regulated supply of missiles. Despite expending some reserves, ongoing processes ensure an ample missile supply for repelling potential aerial assaults.”

Earlier reports from the Ukrainian Air Force detailed that on the night of Jan. 7, Russians deployed 28 Shahed drones over Ukraine, with 21 successfully intercepted by air defense forces.

The air defense system remained active over Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, and Cherkasy oblasts.

During the drone onslaught, one UAV struck a residential building in Dnipro, housing 22 families. There were no casualties reported.

Another Shahed drone targeted a decommissioned recreation base in Mykolaiv Oblast. In Kirovohrad Oblast, debris from a downed drone caused damage to a home and a power line.
