Russia targets Kyiv power grid with Zircon hypersonic missiles

The Russian military launched another major missile strike before dawn on Jan. 24, targeting Kyiv regional power grid with missiles and drones, including Zircon hypersonic missiles launched from occupied Crimea.

Kyiv and Kharkiv oblast were also hit with Soviet-era Kh-22 cruise missiles fired from Tu-22 bombers. At least 20 explosions were heard in Kharkiv, causing significant damage across multiple districts, city officials said.

At 4 a.m. in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, a missile hit an unfinished high-rise residential building, Oleksandr Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration, said. By 3:40 a.m., Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported disruptions to heating and water supply on the city’s left bank. Earlier, at 2:20 a.m., a six-story office building in Solomianskyi district was struck.

Overall, monitoring Telegram channels reported that Kyiv and its suburbs were attacked with six Iskander ballistic missiles, two Zircon hypersonic, and six cruise missiles, in addition to a large number of kamikaze drones.
