The prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine "has been suspended for several months," said Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Society Development, the Russian propaganda agency Interfax reported on May 29.

She accused Ukraine of making "far-fetched demands" for exchanges and said she is in constant dialogue with the Ukrainian ombudsman and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Moskalkova claims that she visits Ukrainian prisoners of war daily and that both sides have visited around 700 military personnel in captivity, according to her.

Prisoners exchange

The last prisoner exchange took place on Feb. 8, when Ukraine returned 49 National Guard soldiers, 25 border guards, 26 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and 11 terrorists.

Prior to that, on Jan. 3, the largest exchange since the beginning of the Russian invasion occurred. Ukraine brought home 230 citizens, including 213 soldiers and sergeants, 11 officers, and six civilians. Among them were the defenders of Azovstal.

May 20 marked the two-year anniversary of 1,900 Azovstal defenders being held in Russian captivity.

On May 25, the Olenivka Community called on the President, the head of the HUR, the Presidential Office, and other government agencies to exchange traitors and collaborators Vyacheslav Boguslaev, Nestor Shufrich, and Metropolitan Pavlo for Ukrainian prisoners of war wounded in the July 29, 2022, terrorist attack in Olenivka.
